Player protection

Built for the regulator in the room.

In October 2026, reports said the FTC had begun reviewing advertising at the largest online sportsbooks, while the fight over prediction markets moved toward the Supreme Court. Investors, partners and regulators are right to ask which operators are exposed. This page sets out how PureWager protects its players, and why our model keeps us on the right side of that line.

Where we stand

A licensed operator, answerable for every bet.

We are a state-licensed operator. In Maryland our market access is secured and our personal licenses are granted, and we answer to the Maryland Lottery and Gaming Control Agency for every player, every bet and every ad we run.

We do not offer prediction market contracts. Our growth plan was never built on the bonus spending that has put the largest books in the spotlight. We win players through team and venue partners and keep them with rewards they spend locally, so if the rules on promotions tighten, we have nothing to unwind.

The platform

Protection lives in the code.

We own our technology, so each state's rules are written into the platform's configuration. If a feature or an offer does not comply in a state, it does not ship there.

01

Before the first bet

Every account is age verified at sign-up. Identity and payment checks run at first deposit and again whenever account details change or activity looks unusual. Geolocation confirms a player is inside a legal market before any wager is accepted. Every new account also starts with an affordability limit.

02

While they play

Players set daily, weekly or monthly deposit limits, take time-outs and see their full history of deposits, withdrawals and bets at any time. Every offer carries its full terms, including wagering requirements, expiry dates and withdrawal restrictions.

03

When they want out

Self-exclusion sits in the account, alongside statewide programs such as Maryland's Voluntary Exclusion Program. Excluded players are never marketed to. Anyone suspected of being underage is suspended at once, and if confirmed, their stakes are returned and no winnings are paid.

The same controls run on every brand built on our platform, including the partner brands we license. An operator who launches on PureWager gets this protection on day one.

The affordability model

An educated bettor stays longer.

When someone opens an account, we take the township or city where they live and check it against the median household income for that area. That sets their starting affordability limit on day one, so nobody comes in and loses a month's rent in their first session. From there the player stays in control: they can set and change their limits, take time-outs and self-exclude whenever they choose.

Then we teach the game. Every player gets a fact pack and an FAQ, and we run webinars, seminars and live events on how odds work, what affordability means in practice and how each of our products works, across sports and casino. A player who understands the game makes better decisions, enjoys it more and keeps it in balance with the rest of their life.

Our forecasts do not count on big first-day losses. We do not plan for them and we do not want them.

Why it is the better business

Two players, three years.

Player X · One night
$500

No education and no limit. Spends $500 in one night, has a bad experience and never comes back.

Player Y · Lifetime value
$9,750

Educated and limited from day one. Spends an average of $62.50 a week, the midpoint of $25 to $100, for three years.

Illustrative. Total spend over 156 weeks: $3,900 at $25 a week, $9,750 at the $62.50 average, $15,600 at $100.

Player Y's lifetime value over three years is 19.5 times what player X spends in one night. Steady, smaller stakes give us a more balanced and predictable book. Because their time with us is a good experience whether or not they win on a given day, they stay, earn points and spend them in our rewards network, which brings them back again.

People and process

How we stay out of the headlines.

Our people

Every support agent completes problem gambling training and works to a state-specific procedure. Agents watch for signs of harm, such as frequent deposits, chasing losses, distressed language and requests to reverse a withdrawal. When they see them, they offer limits, time-outs and self-exclusion and point the player to 1-800-GAMBLER. Offering a promotion to an at-risk player is banned outright, and every agent is scored on how they handle these moments.

Our marketing

Our advertising follows each regulator's rules. It never targets minors or excluded players, never misrepresents odds or winnings and never calls a bet free or risk-free. We spend to win players who will stay, so we never need to push anyone past what they can afford.

Our oversight

Our responsible gambling policy is owned by co-founder Wayne Stevenson, CEO of PureWager Gaming, and approved by the board. Every interaction, dispute and intervention is logged for audit. Complaints are reviewed weekly, compliance is audited monthly, and any player can take a dispute to the regulator, whose decision is final.

The bottom line

Tougher rules suit us.

The scrutiny now landing on this industry is aimed at practices our model was built without. We think this is how the industry has to work from here.
